For me\u2014Nikita Rani, a postgraduate biotechnology student\u2014the difference between theory and application became crystal clear the moment I stepped into the Heredity Biosciences training laboratory in Bhubaneswar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past 3 months, I didn\u2019t just complete a training\u2014I lived an experience that reshaped my confidence, skills, and career aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Week 1\u20132: Foundation &amp; Familiarization<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I still remember the first day. Nervous yet excited, I was welcomed by a team of passionate scientists and mentors. Our journey began with an orientation to the lab safety protocols, SOPs, and daily documentation procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">We quickly dived into:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">DNA isolation from plant and bacterial samples<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Preparation of buffers and media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Aseptic techniques and microbiological plating<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Spectrophotometric readings for nucleic acid quantification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnlike my college, here we were the ones running the experiments\u2014not just watching.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em><mark style=\"background-color:#fcb900\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>The hands-on practice built our muscle memory. And the mentorship ensured we understood not just the how, but also the why behind every step.<\/strong><\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Week 3\u20136: Molecular Biology in Action<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As we progressed, the training turned intense and exciting. I got the opportunity to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Prepare PCR Master Mix and run Polymerase Chain Reactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Visualize DNA on<strong> <\/strong>agarose gels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Analyze gene expression experiments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Understand primer design and result interpretation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Each procedure taught me troubleshooting\u2014what to do when bands are missing, or when a gel smears. That <em>real-time thinking<\/em> isn\u2019t something books can teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><mark style=\"background-color:#8ed1fc\" class=\"has-inline-color\">\u201cI learned more practical molecular biology in 3 weeks here than in 3 years of university.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Week 7\u201310: Research Exposure &amp; Project Work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s where things got serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Under guidance, I designed and executed a mini-research project:<br><strong><em>&#8220;Antimicrobial activity of plant extracts against clinical bacterial isolates&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">From sample preparation to result analysis, I was involved in every stage.
