Inside the Lab: A Day in the Life of a Heredity Biosciences Intern
At Heredity Biosciences, each day is a journey into discovery, precision, and hands-on exploration in the world of life sciences. With thousands of students trained over the past three years, we’ve cultivated more than just skills—we’ve nurtured careers.
Let’s walk you through a typical day in the life of one of our interns, Ipsita, a passionate M.Sc. Biotechnology student, as she experiences real-time laboratory research at Heredity Biosciences, Bhubaneswar.
10:30 AM – Morning Briefing & Lab Setup
The day kicks off with a quick team huddle led by our expert research assistants. Today’s task? DNA isolation from bacterial cultures, followed by PCR amplification and gel electrophoresis.
Ipsita gears up in her lab coat, gloves, and goggles—ready to make the most of the lab. She’s already prepared her logbook the previous evening, because documentation and planning are key to every experiment.
11:00 AM – Hands-On Experiment Begins
In most colleges, practicals are demonstrations. But here? You do the real thing.
Ipsita Behera starts by pipetting samples, preparing lysis buffers, and running centrifugation. Under the guidance of our senior trainer, she executes DNA isolation with precision. No pre-made kits here—it’s all manual, real-world, and deeply enriching.
“I never thought I’d actually run a gel on my own and visualize DNA bands. Heredity made it possible.” – Ipsita
12:30 PM – PCR & Thermal Cycler Setup
After quantifying DNA using a spectrophotometer, it’s time to set up the PCR. Ipsita prepares the master mix, adds primers, and sets the temperature profile. With each beep of the thermal cycler, she feels more like a scientist in motion.
This is not just training. It’s real molecular biology at work.
1:30 PM – Lunch Break + Peer Learning
Interns bond over lunch, often discussing what went right—or wrong—in their experiments. This informal knowledge exchange is a hidden gem of the Heredity experience.
2:30 PM – Gel Electrophoresis & Result Analysis
The highlight of Ipsita’s day? Watching DNA bands under UV after electrophoresis. “This is the ‘aha’ moment,” she says. The excitement of getting clear, sharp bands is unmatched.
Our trainers ensure that every student understands the science behind the result, not just the result itself.
4:00 PM – Research Discussion & Documentation
No day is complete without entering observations, troubleshooting errors, and reading 1-2 relevant research papers. Ipsita and her peers engage in a short discussion about how PCR is used in forensic diagnostics and cancer research.
She’s inspired. She’s focused. She’s no longer a student—she’s a life science professional in the making.
The Takeaway
Interns at Heredity Biosciences don’t just “learn” techniques—they live them. From theory to practice, from pipettes to PCR machines, students gain market-ready experience that sets them apart in interviews, PhD applications, and jobs.
If you’re looking to strengthen your laboratory skills and boost your biotech career, this is your sign.
